In the 1960s, Longines supplied the R.R 280 chronometer to railway companies across the globe, with railroad personnel in countries such as China, the United States, Italy, Canada, Romania, and Persia all relying on its precision. The Longines Railroad reissue pays tribute to this heritage with a 40mm stainless steel case, glossy ivory dial, oversized Arabic numerals, and a 24-hour inner track that closely echoes the original design. Now marked “R.R 888,” the watch houses the modern automatic caliber L888.2 — an ETA-based movement with a 64-hour power reserve. Staying true to its utilitarian roots, the dial features clean typography, lance-shaped hands, and no date window, prioritizing clarity and function in the spirit of railroad timekeeping.
