The Omega Speedmaster Split Seconds ref. 3540.50 is a rare and innovative take on the Speedmaster line, produced for only a short run between 1999 and 2002. Housed in a robust 42mm stainless steel case reminiscent of the X-33, it is powered by Omega’s caliber 3600, based on the Valjoux 7750 and modified for the rattrapante (split-seconds) function. This complication allows the wearer to stop one chronograph hand independently to time laps or different finishing intervals while the main hand continues running. With fewer than 5,000 estimated examples produced, it remains among the more uncommon modern Speedmasters while maintaining an excellent value proposition.
