The term Oyster Perpetual refers to two defining Rolex innovations: the waterproof Oyster case and the Perpetual self-winding movement, a pairing that appears on nearly every Rolex dial. Yet it is also a model in its own right, representing Rolex’s most quintessential and accessible watch within the brand’s lineup.
The Oyster Perpetual 26 embodies Rolex’s utilitarian philosophy with a clean three-hand design, a gently curved Oystersteel case with a domed bezel, and a brushed Oyster bracelet secured by an Oysterclasp. In addition, the watch features Rolex’s patented Twinlock screwdown crown providing 100 meters of water resistance, along with Chromalight-filled indices for enhanced legibility in low light.
Around 2018, Rolex introduced new dial options across the Oyster Perpetual range, including a black sunburst dial for the 26mm model under the reference 176200-0017. Unlike earlier 176200 black dial variants with the 3-6-9 “Explorer-style” layout, this updated dial uses only rectangular indices to create a more symmetrical and minimalist appearance. Because this dial configuration was introduced shortly before the 176200 was discontinued in 2020 (and succeeded by the 28mm reference 276200), 26mm Oyster Perpetual examples with this dial are comparatively uncommon.

This watch is in fair to good overall condition, showing noticeable signs of regular wear including scratches, scuffs, and dents. There is a visible dent on the bezel between the 9 and 10 o’clock indices. Scratches and abrasions are present on the crystal, most notably along the 3 and 9 o’clock edges. The movement is running properly with all functions operating as intended. Additional photos and timegrapher results are available on request.
