The Seiko SBDX005 was released in December 2000 as the final model in Seiko’s seven-piece Historical Collection, a limited-edition series celebrating the brand’s landmark watches at the turn of the millennium. Paying homage to the 1975 “Grandfather Tuna” 6159-7010 — the world’s first titanium dive watch — it faithfully revives the model’s distinctive ceramic-coated titanium shroud and robust 51mm case, preserving the iconic Tuna silhouette while offering modern construction and enhanced durability. Powering the watch is the hand-assembled Seiko caliber 8L35, derived from the Grand Seiko 9S55 and produced at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Iwate Prefecture. Produced in a limited run of 1,000 pieces, this model remains one of the most sought-after Tuna watches in Seiko’s long history.
